Note contenuto multimediale
This video was created from 140 photos taken from ~3/4 mile away. The photos were shot in quick bursts with a very brief pause in between; that is why the video appears to "jump" at some moments. (The copulation portion was mostly covered in a single burst or two in quick successions, so I don't think I missed much if anything. It was quick.) Be aware also that the video speed is not exactly life-like - it's probably a little on the slow-mo side. Other than the cropping necessitated by the long distance involved, the images have not been altered.
Dettagli dell'osservazione
At ~9:20 am, I observed 2 Bald Eagles apparently mating on top of a very tall and large gravel mound on a private property across from the park. The mound is not far from the trees where 2 Bald Eagles have been regularly seen for multiple years now. I might add that yesterday was the first time I saw a Bald Eagle perched on that gravel mound. (I occasionally see other birds - Turkey Vultures, American Crows - on that mound, but not Bald Eagles.) So yesterday I was wondering why/what it was doing there. (Perhaps this might be the answer. Maybe it's easier there than on a tree?) [VIDEO: Note the male approaching from the left (left on the screen), mount the female, then jumps off back to the left; the female is then seen moving around on the right side (right on the screen).]
