Ship's radar on in first several seconds, creating a prominent background noise at approximately 50 Hz, and at lower levels for several minutes until it was turned off. Depth: 10 fath. Propulsion & Aux. noise status: Engines off. Recorder: UNQ-7a. Filters: open. Gain: 2, 1 1/2, 1. Hydrophone: R-130. If Hump: # full calls: 2. Any peculiarities: large dives (20+ min) with blows in mid call as well as end. GOOD. Other notes: Calibration tone 1000~ .775 VRMS when VU meter is at 0 on UNQ-7a. Close individual, cut gain of UNQ-7a from normal 2 to 1 1/2, then 1, 1 1/2. Turned off radar, radio and new Navy Radar Transponder to get hash out of AC line. This is our best tape of a close individual so far this cruise." SEAOCEAN.
