Continuing great Tate find, seen near the middle of the pond. Compact diving duck with small dark bill, frosty-looking overall with smudgy white head, dark cheek patch, brown barring on breast, silvery flanks, unkempt-looking scapulars. Pretty cooperative once I spotted it, mostly preening and resting at the surface. Blackish feet and dark brown wings seen when it stretched.
