While uploading photo Merlin suggested a Lesser Black-backed Gull, unusual for lagoon. Scapulars and coverts are dark almost as dark as western. Iris is dark, legs grayish/pale. Line behind eye (suggest California Gull). Gape not very pronounced neither is gonydeal angle (as in california and Western Gull, respectively). Bill pale at base. Chris Dean reviewed and mentioned Merlin ID challenges, suggested Western Gull.
