*Very rare; 1st Nov-Dec record for Manhattan and one of few overall for LI and the Eastern half of NYS. Continuing now for sometime at Carl Schurz, typically in the company of a second YTWA and two NAWA. Hanging around the 85-86th St. feeders, though in my time here, it was foraging along the scaffolding across the street from the park. Climbing the mesh screen surrounding the building up to 13 stories up, and for a decent chunk of time, it was actually stuck inside the mesh screen (just foraging in the three feet wide gap between the mesh and the building). Eventually it came back out and put on a show in the two trees on the far side of the street, once landing and pausing for a minute not too far from where I was standing. Black face mask extending down the side of the face and post-ocularly, white supercillium, white ventral eye arc, slate-gray upperparts, brilliant yellow throat, white belly, white double wingbars. and broad blackish streaks down flanks. Behaving very much like a nuthatch or BAWW at times, especially when foraging vertically on the scaffolding. Cautiously identified as S. d. albilora, the more common vagrant to the NE, by virtue of the short, stout beak and bright white lores largely lacking yellow (the smidge of yellow in one corner of the lores appears to be within range for albilora). Additionally, the yellow being restricted to the throat and not extending father down the upper chest and the limited black along the edge of the crown are also indicative of albilora over dominica/stoddari. I believe this bird is safely within albilora range, but I’ll be happy to discuss further or amend this sighting should the reviewers be hesitant to accept this record with a subspecific ID.
