This female Surf Scoter was on the far north edge of the reservoir hanging out with one of the female Long-tailed Ducks. The SUSC had 2 white patches on the head with the a vertical patch nearest the bill. The back and sides were dark in color with no white secondaries visible which, in addition to the vertical white patch, also lessened the possibility of it being a White-winged Scoter. Additional note: I looked up the Jefferson County/Arapahoe County line which goes thru the reservoir. The SUSC was actually in Arapahoe County.
