1w from Stuart Hutchings hide - larger than Herring Gull by direct comparison with a very different shape - slenderer, long legged, sloping fore head with longer bill. This combined with chacteristic "4-coloured" plumage - back bill/white head (with spotting on hindneck) & breast, grey mantle & scaps/brown coverts/black tertials & primaries made it stand out.
