Actively flying around treetop to treetop in the orchard proper, spending lots of time in the tall trees (poplars?) right near the parking area. Flew off to the west and looked like it was gone in that direction at least twice, but each time I later saw it again coming from the east end of the orchard. Large acrobatic woodpecker with steady wing beats, dark above with glossy sheen and light below, this particular individual did not have much rosy coloration.
