Plump alcid. Distinctive black and white pattern with black above and white below. White trailing edge to secondaries. White cheek with patchy black line behind the eye. Not adult; formative cycle with a stubby bill but not as large as full adult. Mostly solid black bill— no vertical white line. Thin white line in front of the eye still emerging.
