觀察細節
Continuing find by Deborah Crooks, sticking mostly to the vegetation along the border of the mud flats but flushed a few times out to the flats before always working its way back. Eventually lost in the shuffle as birds broke off in different directions with the rising tide. Watched at close range throughout with MOB. Stunning bird structurally similar to a Pectoral Sandpiper, but struck me as a little rounder-bodied and longer-legged. Contrasting facial pattern really stuck out, as did the bright pop of its coloration. Bill slightly decurved, and seemed a little on the short side compared to PESA. Bright rufous cap set off by whitish supercilium broadest behind the eye and a thin white eyering. Dark centered feathers on the back fringed rufous and white, and rough white lines visible down the back when it faced directly away. The throat was pale, and the buffy breast had streaking limited to near the throat giving way to a plain buffy wash that was less sharply demarcated from the underparts than a Pec. Otherwise white below with a few neat brown streaks on the undertail coverts. Namesake sharply pointed tail feathers even visible in flight!
