觀察細節
As we were wrapping up our beachcombing session and heading back, we noticed several shorebirds—plovers, sanderlings, and whimbrels—actively wading along the shore, seemingly unbothered by our presence. We paused briefly to capture some close-up shots of the birds in action. Just as we were about to leave the field, a dramatic event unfolded. Out of nowhere, a bird appeared like a flash, swiftly snatching a Tibetan Sand Plover and ascending rapidly into the sky. The speed and precision were astonishing, and we managed to capture a sequence of photographs of the entire predation event. At first, we assumed the raptor was a Peregrine Falcon due to its speed and silhouette. However, upon closer examination of the photographs, certain features did not match. We then shared the images with the Kerala Bird Monitoring group for expert opinion. After careful analysis, the raptor was identified as a Laggar Falcon (Falco jugger), not a Peregrine as initially thought. The photograph has since been uploaded and shared with the community.
