Unmistakable Snipe with long, straight bill, short tail and dark stripe through eye and on top of head. Flushed 6 birds, then a furthet 2, then 1 bird when walking along edge of large dam. Birds flew to other edge of dam, calling whilst in flight and offered brief but clear views through binoculars. Quite an early record for the species southern migratory season based on other local records.
