Transcription of contemporaneous field notes recorded on a cassette tape: "A wren is observed with mousy greyish brown upper parts, light underparts, a very long tail that is cocked up. A prominent eye stripe, a decurved bill, energetic actions, Could see dark markings along the margin of the tail. However the bird never really fanned his tail. But I could see the real light color on the outer feathers. It was seen at 9:50 am. I am convinced that there was no reddish or cinnamon color in the upper parts. The tail was very long. The bird was observed mainly on the ground at about 30 yards both through the binoculars and the 20-45 zoom scope. After seeing the bird I went into the house of Mrs. Olin (Mrs. Walter Olin) who told me that she had corresponded with Dr. Thomas Roberts while she lived up in Duluth from 1925 to 1946 and that she reported to him first and last migration dates. She said that he always wrote a letter of appreciation to her after receiving her letters. She again has quite a list of various local birders who have visited. Apparently Kim Eckert was there and this bird brought his total Minnesota score up to tie with Bob Janssen and Ray Glassel. The three of them are now tied. Paul Kubic was there earlier this morning and just left about the time that I arrived."
