觀察細節
Two interesting gulls to note: 1. Bird I glossed over as a 1st cycle Herring when scanning. Dark brown patterning and replaced scapulars. Size, shape, and scapulars seemed spot on for Herring. Neatly bicolored beak. However, when it flew off wing almost or completely lacked an inner primary window recalling something like California Gull. Based on the overall appearance it still seemed best for Herring. I didn't take it as unusual until it flew, so no photos. 2. First seen loafing behind the close berm with Herring, Ring-billed, and Lesser Black-backed. Thought it looked a bit dumpy and shorter-winged at first because some of the primaries disappeared into the background and it appears to be full of garbage, but upon examination of the photos looks like a possible contender for a bit faded/worn Thayer's. Diffuse faded smudgy patterning which was very light in the coverts with fair amounts of white. Scapulars a slightly darker shade but still diffuse coloration lacking any kind of discernable light patterning. Tertials fairly light and about the same color as the scapulars with fairly wide light edging also lacking any other discernable patterning. Brownish primaries a shade darker than the tertials with white edging. One primary on the left wing looked like it may have been darker than the others, but from the rear all primaries on the right appeared the same color as the tertials. I don't think this bird is the same as the birds spotted earlier as it lacked patterning in the scapulars and seemed a bit more bulky with darker tertials and primaries. Unfortunately walked behind the berm and out of sight before I got any looks at the open wing. Digiscopes
