Two together as reported yesterday by Steve Kimball. In pond 1 diving near the observation point. In basic plumage with long buffy crest on rear crown, and a thin merganser bill. Overall dark brownish with a white wing patch in flight. Poor iPhone photo attached. Students and a docent walked by on the refuge and flushed the birds before i could set up my camera and tripod, so took a quick snap.
