觀察細節
Very drab tan “longsparrow” with thin white eyering, darker malar, diffuse streaking on breast, more boldly streaked back. Not buffy like a Smith’s Longspur, facial pattern less defined, and too much white in tail. Bill smaller than Thick-billed Longspur, and too much streaking below. Lapland would show more of a chinstrap. Different shape/posture (shorter legs/ more crouched, and longer-winged) than a Vesper or Brewer’s sparrow, which could be confusion species. Also bears a passing resemblance to a female Cassin’s Finch, but bill is smaller and streaking below is much less defined. Bird was foraging on “center” field with pipits, here: (32.7541636, -117.2418056) After a few minutes of crouch-walking around, it flushed to the west with the pipits. White outer tail feathers seen in flight. Found this morning by Matt Sadowski.
