觀察細節
This extremely dull individual caused me some real confusion, not helped by it being supremely good at hiding in the bushes. Luckily it let me digiscope some video, screen grabs of which are attached. Moult limits showing in the strong contrast between worn brownish retained juvenile feathers and fresher replaced greater coverts and inner tertials, as well as the narrow, pointed and abraded tail feathers make aging it as a young bird (in first alternate plumage) fairly straightforward. As a young vireo in spring then, its plumage is maximally dull and faded. The lemon yellow flanks and vent stripe, though a bit duller than we are used to seeing on BHVI, are extremely bright for a first alternate Cassin's (though would likely pass on an adult male out west). Nice example of similar age/date/plumage wear Cassin's, and what I would be looking for in a vagrant, here: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/60233551 See also this bird, described as a "textbook" first-fall male Cassin's and therefore with about the brightest plumage I would expect to see on this age class, even before any significant wear happens: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/70926471 In the one shot showing the tail there also appears to be relatively broad white edging on the outer tail feathers which wraps around the end of the inner vane, despite how worn this bird is - another mark in favour of Blue-headed.
