觀察細節
Heard an unfamiliar song while walking near the westernmost parking area (41.51280886360026, -93.79975544014684). Walked around the area for about 10min in an attempt to locate the bird, but never had a visual as it sang every 15sec or so, so I assumed it was lower in the dense understory beneath the tree canopy. Reviewed the audio when I got home and best match was Swainson's Warbler. Considered BTNW, but the song was too relaxed and sweet, and lacked any buzziness. Consulting The Warbler Guide, the series of slurred notes in the last section of the song also seem better for Swainson's. Update: Holy cow! I had almost ended my walk well before I got to the location of this bird. Up to that point, it hadn't been a great birding morning: cloudy, breezy, and not much in the way of warbler diversity. Glad I stuck with it. I originally left this encounter scratching my head, thinking – from a distance – those introductory notes sounded similar enough to the intro notes of a BTNW song, but everything was way too sweet/round. Way off in hindsight. After a little research and suspecting SWWA, I went back out later in the morning to try and get a better look or cleaner audio. I ended up with neither, but fortunately others did. Awesome bird; 2nd state record. Lesson learned: keep going on less-than-ideal days.
