My understanding is that this bird was initially discovered by Mary Beth Stowe the day before, on 6 July 1994. Delbert Tarter, a local birder, bird bander, and retired chemistry professor at Angelo State University went out the next day, 7 July 1994, and set up mist nets, catching and banding the Varied Bunting.
