About the size of nearby Sanderlings. Dark above, white below. Dark gray/green legs. Black crown and mask on white head. Longish, very thin bill. Very brightly marked upper parts; dark feathers fringed with brownish orange margins. In flight rump divided, bright white line running across the bases of tertials, secondaries and primaries becoming narrower on the peripheral part of the wing.
