觀察細節
I first heard the Purple Finch "pit" call note as it flew in. Bird came to the feeder, and as the photos show, it is more raspberry-colored than the House Finches it was with. I believe this is a second year male molting into adult plumage. Apparently this happens in late-summer, so the timing lines up with my bird. It sort of shows a white eyebrow, but the head is a little messy. Cleaner white underparts with a partial "vested" purplish-raspberry color and limited streaking on breast and belly. I had a female-type PUFI at my feeder earlier this summer, so perhaps it was really a male not yet molted into adult male plumage if it was this bird, which I think is likely given the time of year. Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S144246461. Someone suggested that maybe the fires in Canada drove the bird away and it is summering here. I also have an overwintering White-throated Sparrow in the yard that shows up periodically at the feeder, but I never have my camera when I see it.
