觀察細節
Very approachable; still exhibiting high level of island tameness despite ongoing hunting. Individuals could be observed up close, resting in open branched trees. Foraging in tree, where they compete for fruit with many of the other avian species. The Maroon Pigeons are not able to reach the majority of the ripe fruit at the end of the branches, which is instead feed on by lighter species, most notably the Bronze-naped pigeons. Low population size of Maroon likely the result of competition for resources with other species, and a lack of niche partitioning at a level that allows for the necessary resources to be present to sustain a high population of these large columbiforms. Even more reason why the ongoing hunting is a problem, an activity which is obviously still practiced; shotgun canisters and the leftover feathers from plucked birds can concerningly (and sadly) be found within the occupied territory of the birds - this is true for other species as well, most notably the Green Pigeon. Actions to cease continued hunting should be of upmost importance if these species are to exist.
