Churring calls heard first, then fly by. Walked about a mile around the stock tanks and never got much closer than 50 yards from any of the Mountain Plovers. At least seven were seen as they flushed or disappeared into cover. Found in an area with very short sparse vegetation and open rocky ground. One curious bird stayed put on the ground for a quick photo right by the car when I returned from the long flush and chase. The Prairie Ghosts lived up to their reputation.
