觀察細節
Formerly called "Louisiana Heron," the turquoise bill color indicates this is an adult in its courtship plumage phase. After courtship the bill of both sexes turns yellowish. This species favors southern swampy areas but we only saw a few in Texas. It is thought to be declining in North America after a period of range expansion during 1940s to 1970s. This is the subspecies "E. t. ruficollis" found in the United States and middle America. The nominate race is smaller and paler and replaces it over much of South America.
