觀察細節
Heard only. Recorded. Distant but audible and distinct. Called for a few min and sounded great for Eastern Screech-Owl. Was giving lower calls after some of the mid to later whinny calls that I doubt were picked up in the recording. More like the monotonic trill. We were worried about the calls possibly being playback, but these are the reasons I decided it was likely not playback: 1. Those of us who heard it were the last people at Rattlesnake Springs. We all walked back to the cars together and there were no cars remaining in the parking lot after we all split up and departed. Jim and I even sat until after dark to take pics of the moon and no one else came out of the Rattlesnake Spring Road. 2. We listened to the calls for a minute or two before Jason Vassallo decided to try to find the owl. He had not been gone for more than a minute and the calls moved further away. Looking at the aerial images, the trees do not go back very far past the area where the Blue Mockingbird was seen and where we were standing. It seems a very real possibility that the owl moved in response to Jason's pursuit. 3. We heard the owl calling to the SW of where we were standing waiting to see if the Blue Mockingbird would appear one last time. Looking at the aerial images, it appears that the rest of the access to Rattlesnake Springs is not in that direction and that it may be private property shortly past the fairly narrow row of trees. 4. The other group that was still there had been standing about 20 yards away heard it, too, and were not playing calls. Jim Kringle, Jason Vassallo, and Marie and Suk Lee heard it, too.
