觀察細節
From my notes verbatim: "An eclipse-plumaged male Gargany was present at the Plum Island salt pans this morning from about 7:15 on until at least 10:30 AM. Excellent views were afforded as it fed and preened in the open at close range with a flock of Gadwall. Some of the features of which to make note, serving to separate it from female or eclipse-plumaged Green-winged and Blue-winged Teal include the following: * Distinctive Garganey striped face pattern including a pale loral patch and a dusky stripe across the cheek. * Dark stripe through the eye (no eye ring at typical BWTE); long, fairly bold supercilliary. * Very dark crown * Clear buffy whitish throat. * Fairly long all gray bill; no orange to base as in most GWTE. * Brownish scapulars with boldly contrasting creamy or whitish fringes. * Sharply defined whitish belly. Although I did not see it fly the bird fully extended it's wing several times while preening, revealing entirely solid pale gray forewing (lesser secondary coverts), followed by a broad mid-wing bar, a darkish speculum, and finally a broad white edge to the secondaries. The bird was viewed by several hours in all and seen later by at least several other observers and photographed. Accepted record by Massachusetts Avian Records Committee. (Photos by Dave Larson)
