觀察細節
When we first came upon this calling bird from downslope, my first thought was that I was hearing a distant Semipalmated Plover (far-off and flying somewhere overhead)! But it soon became apparent it was a YBFL within the boreal forest. I eventually detected two birds (and I believe the second bird sang weakly), but this individual gave these "turwee" calls incessantly (compared to pewees, it's much shorter and with a closing drop at the end "turweep"; the leading "tur" note is also shorter and more sharply inflected, an inverted 'v'-shape), with very short pauses between call notes. It wasn't too challenging to get on it the forest, as it regularly changed perches within the midstory of the spruce forest, allowing a close approach and superb looks. Katie was eventually able to get on the bird, too, and, I believe, obtain a nice look. 29 May 2024 update: I was shocked to see that Semipalmated Plover was actually mentioned in the Birds of the World account for this call: "Similar to call of Semipalmated Plover or short call of Eastern Wood-Pewee."
