觀察細節
MEGA: Self found and photographed. 3rd record for Ireland. 1985 and 2008 last. Observer is very familiar with this species from North America. Classic vireo body shape being somewhat plump with round face and head giving it a "large-headed" appearance. Distinct and bold large area of white around bill and extending back behind eye as two crescents one above and one below eye divided by a bold black stripe. The dark eyes appear large on the soft, plain plumage of the face. The head has a medium grey cap. Bill black with distinct “vireo” shape being straight and thicker over medium length with a rounded over tip. Broad at base. Upper body plumage, wings, and rump are uniform grayish/green. No wing-bars. Tail short and grey with no other markings. The throat, chest, belly, flanks, and undertail coverts are pale yellow. The throat and vent are a brighter yellow. Separated from all warblers mostly by bill shape and body shape. Behaviorally vireo’s are more methodical in their movements tending to perch horizontally and move slowly or not at all and search the foliage for insects. Tend not to flit about. This bird was observed behaving in this manner. The closest similar species is the Warbling Vireo also from NA. Separated from Warbling by more distinct facial features and dark lores and a bright yellow throat brightest in the center is also distinctive. Smaller and shorter-billed than Red-eyed Vireo. Yellow throat not found in Red-eyed Vireo. Many photographs. The bird was vocalizing a raspy call. Audio recorded.
