觀察細節
First found by BLS around 935, sitting among Brandt's Cormorants on the rocks at Pt. Pinos. Identified in the field as a sub-adult Masked/Nazca Booby, and upon closer examination of photos and consulting ID resources (Howell et al. "Rare Birds of North America"), the bird seems to show enough orange in the bill to be safely considered a Nazca. The age of the bird is late first-cycle, based on the worn juvenile outer primaries and retained secondaries. Interestingly, in the field the bill color was hard to assess, and while the orange 'tinge' to the bill was present, it was not very obvious. I'm not sure how to explain that. The photos show the orange coloration better than what we could note in the field. The bird was put up by a local Peregrine around 10AM, and flew directly out to sea.
