It is very unusual to find this species in saline habitat though I have seen such on one other occasion some years ago. Seen in association with Grey-tailed Tattler on a falling tide, this bird was in breeding plumage and would normally be in transit to their breeding grounds. This is the first time I have known this species to overwinter in Australia though I read there has been other scant records of such.
