A Southern Red-billed Hornbill perching, flying off and striking a window. The Southern Red-billed Hornbill (Tockus erythrorhynchus rufirostris) is a common resident hornbill in the savannas and drier bushland of southern Africa. The sexes are similar, and the males feed the female after she has sealed herself in a natural tree cavity to incubate the eggs and raise the nestlings. This bird (probably a male) was at our chalet in Satara Restcamp in Kruger Park where he obsessively pecked at his reflection in our vehicle’s wing mirrors and also flew into the chalet’s windows, where he pecked and defaecated on the glass. In this clip you can hear him clucking, then striking the chalet window with his beak. Elevation: 287 m. Date added to IBC: June 25, 2018.
