A Pallid Cuckoo perching. The Pallid Cuckoo (Heteroscenes or Cacomantis pallidus) is a breeding migrant in Australia, wintering in the north and moving south in Spring to breed. It is Australia’s most widespread cuckoo and may be found in open forests, woodlands and in this case Mulga shrublands in semi-arid areas. The Pallid Cuckoo parasitises cup-nesting birds – honeyeaters, woodswallows, whistlers, cuckoo-shrikes and flycatchers. This adult was perched in an Acacia on Wooleen Station in the Murchison Region of Western Australia. Elevation: 293 m. Date added to IBC: August 21, 2018.
