A male Andean Condor male soaring along the cliff face on Estancia Olga Teresa. The Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus) is found in the mountains of western South America from northern Colombia to Tierra del Fuego, descending to sea level in the far south. Andean Condors are mainly carrion feeders, concentrating on medium to large mammals such as sheep, cattle and Guanacos (Lama guanicoe). Estancia Olga Teresa south of Rio Verde in southern Chile hosts a breeding colony of about 150 Andean Condors on the high cliff overlooking the Estancia. The birds can be seen returning to roost or soaring along the cliff face in the late afternoon, as this male Condor was doing. Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: March 16, 2019.
