A pair of endangered Hooded Plovers feeding on a tidal flat at low tide. The Hooded Plover (Thinornis cucullatus), is endemic to Australia and Tasmania and is endangered. There are two recognised subspecies - Thinornis c. cucullatus in south-eastern Australia and T. c. tregellasi in south-western Australia. Hooded Plovers are mainly found on sandy beaches, and in Western Australia they also occur on the margins of salt lakes and estuaries. Hooded Plovers eat a range of small invertebrates including small bivalves, worms, crustaceans, insects and some seeds. This pair of Hooded Plovers was hunting on the edge of Wellstead Estuary at Bremer Bay on the south coast of Western Australia. Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: March 12, 2019.
