White Ibises perching and preening at Herdsman Lake. The Australian White Ibis (Threskiornis moluccus) is very common in northern and eastern Australia and is becoming more common in Western Australia. Unlike Straw-necked Ibises, White Ibises are scavengers as well as predators of invertebrates, frogs and fish, and are often found in large numbers on landfill sites. These birds were perching and preening on a dead tree in Herdsman Lake near Perth. One briefly spread its wing, revealing the bare strip blood red skin that follows the line of its wing bones. Elevation: 7 m. Date added to IBC: July 13, 2018.
