Thanks to a great tip from the two birders I met here earlier, I knew to look for this bird around the edges of the marsh vegetation at the south end of the pool by the pumping station. The first time I looked there, I saw a Green Heron but no Sora, but when I returned to the pumping station, I realized I had dropped my binoculars' case, so I retraced my steps, found it, and found the Sora, too! I got good views of him, bright yellow bill and all, as he walked along the edge of the marsh vegetation for 30 seconds or so. He retreated into the vegetation before I could snap a photo, but I did get an audio recording of his calls, which were what alerted me to his presence in the first place. An immature California Gull was in the same part of the marsh, for some reason, and he dwarfed the Sora when the two were side by side. In this recording, I'm pretty sure the higher-pitched "keek" calls are from the Sora, whereas the lower-pitched ones toward the end of the recording are definitely from a Black-necked Stilt. When I recorded this, I thought the Sora was the bird doing the harsh grunting, too, but now I'm wondering if it was a Virginia Rail or a Ridgway's Rail instead.
