Recordist's notes: Taxonomy of this critically endangered population of kiwis is a matter of some dispute. It appears likely that A. australis will be split into A. mantelli, A. australis, and A. lawryi. This population will be a subspecies of A. mantelli, if not a full species itself. ML: The subject of this recording was changed from the recordists's entry of Apteryx australis mantelli to A. rowi to reflect current taxonomy (Clements 6.3.2). -Matt Medler, 22 April 2010.
