觀察細節
I noticed this bird in the field as a potentially interesting Mallard-type duck, and got a few photos before it flew away. It has some features favoring a Mexican Duck, chiefly: - the tail is mostly brown, especially in flight (in the photos of it perched it looks a little more white) - little black in the uppertail coverts, and no curly black feathers - the white borders to the speculum seem narrower than other Mallards, although perhaps not as narrow as a true Mexican Duck - the breast is only somewhat reddish - the belly is perhaps only weakly pale, although I couldn't be sure of this in the field - tertials seem brown, not gray A potential concern is a domestic-type Mallard; I only saw one domestic Mallard in the same general area. Thoughts from those who have dabbled more deeply into Anas would be welcome. *I initially entered this as a Mexican intergrade, but most feedback I've received on this bird has suggested that it looks like a good Mexican Duck with not much noticeable Mallard influence.
