From my notes: "Brian Herriott called me yesterday to tell me that there was a WHOOPING CRANE from the re-introduced Wisconsin flock hanging out in Washington Park, in Hyde Park. It¿s a secret bird, Chuck Wescott called him to ask him to check on it to see if it¿s still around. We went down, picking up Paul Clyne and Karin Cassel en route. We found the crane very quickly, getting excellent views of this immature, banded, transmittered bird. We watched it catch, dismember, and consume fairly large fish. Very cool. I took many pictures. It was pretty amazing to see in this city park on the south side of Chicago. Pura locura. The bird was mostly white, with a bit of rusty color on its crown, nape, and two innermost tertials. It had two color bands and transmitters on both tibia, and an aluminum band on one tarsus. It was very tame, though we didn¿t try to approach too closely."
