NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 6. Bulk reel: 371. Weather: clear. Quality: 1-2. Level: +10. Parabola: 36". This starts with some hoarse calls that I believe may correspond to the "grunt calls" of P. purpurascens, and which I believe may be address to a female. Some softer calls are heard which may be of a female. After a while there are sounds of "flying" and no doubt correspond to a bird alighting nearby but whether thee of of the "female(changing position) or of a third bird, can't be sure. Sortly after, a wing-whirr is heard but couldn't be sure if of the "grunting" bird or of another. The recording then continues with "crows" in distance. (Also heard before) Also hear a wing whirr by Pipile pipile and others by granti (some in distance), then other vocalizations and wing-whirrs (total time saved for total effect). (Ortalis motmot also heard). On 2 occasions the near bird gave "flight screams" (@~4:50 and ~6:00), the last time alighting in view. This one may not have involved a real flight, just a change in position in tree. Shortly after I cut out 3 1/2' of recording during which time another bird (the female?) alighted in same tree. Then the near bird gave a wing-whirr. (@~6:40) Then voice comment re this latter display - Bird was apparently [illegible word] when started display, ~15m. after take-off. Total "flight" was short, alighted in another tree. (Then a bird flew into tree again but left with no noise made.
