观察细节
Seen in the same willow ca 15 m above the diversion dam as the first WIWA, at approx. the same time. Warm olive-brown above, pale yellowish overall below. I saw this bird quite briefly as well, and my sense in the field was that it was not a YEWA, and that it was a COYE. However, from the single photo I got, I was unsure at first of eliminating a young, drab YEWA. Combination of warm olive-brown coloration above and faint, pale yellow wash below, without streaking, suggests to me that this bird is not a YEWA, though. I have never seen a YEWA with a similar appearance to this bird. Additionally, body seems quite plump and neck appears short. Bird was flitting around secretively, behavior that could match YEWA but seems particularly apt for COYE. A bit later, a short distance farther upstream, I barely glimpsed a bird that I suspected was the same individual in a shrub near the creek, and recorded its rough, emphatic "chep" calls. Spectrogram comparison matches COYE calls recorded the next week (28 Aug) and does not have the sharply descending, higher-pitched-sounding characteristics of YEWA calls.
