Updated Dec. 2025 -- After reviewing notes and sound recordings from this list, confident in naming this specices. Observed about a dozen larger sandpiper/stilt like birds flying overhead in V-formation, with light undersides and rufous around the head. They were loud enough to hear from the beach, but Merlin wasn't able to identify the calls. At first I thought they were American Avocet, but after analyzing my recording, they best match the song of Hudsonian Godwit. The recordings I referenced were also from Manitoba. This species thus fits size/shape, behaviour, sound and location, but I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.
