The chest and belly had a faint but noticeable acidic yellow tinge to it. The head, mantle, wings and tail were a dark muted brown, lighter than a Black Phoebe and without the sharp demarcation between black -brown and white. Its white throat and light whitish gray upper chest wrapped around towards the nape, also unlike a Black Phoebe. The setting sun gave a rufous tone to the tail.
