NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 19. Bulk reel: 239. Weather: Cloudy, fair. Two-figure song, recorded a long time after whistled imitation. Quality: 1 (frog background). Level: +3. 175 tape. Std. Field note re: display: Bird moves alulas forward, somewhat like Dromococcyx pavoninus, but either directly forward or with one or two movements, then holds them pointed forward quite conspicuously and turns/sways the body slowly from side to side. D. pavoninus jerks the alulas forward in a series of steps to the outermost position and does not, as I recall, sway the body. An observation at Punta Palmita, Lake Valencia, 11/V/73, indicated that a bird, probably a male, reacted to the female song of the male-female duet by flying back and forth and when perched it pointed the alulas straight forward and held them there; the black alulas stand out conspicuously against the light bird.
