**First record for St. Louis County** Picked out of gull roost first thing in morning (~400-500 yards). Good chance it is the same adult bird I had at Riverlands on Sunday, but who knows. Regardless, adult bird found at this location by Tommy Goodwin yesterday evening, and this morning first spotted by David Dean. Easy to pick out; with dark gray mantle, a couple of shades darker than nearby Ring-billeds, but still not as dark as Lesser Black-backed also present, but much further to left in roost. Resting on water (not standing this time), it did look a bit smaller than nearby Ring-billed Gulls, but not considerably so (where it looked comparable in size standing next to Ring-billeds at Riverlands). Larger white tertial crescent than any of the Ring-billeds nearby with white exposed scapulars (which none of nearby RBGulls had), dark eye easily noticeable at distance, bill appeared unmarked and greenish overall, certainly smaller/thinner than nearby RBGUs. Head looked relatively clean overall given distance, but it did have some light streaking on back of head/neck. Interestingly, on water (vs. standing the other day), the head appeared much more round than the RB Gulls heads, which peak a bit to the rear. Did see it stretch its wings a couple times, other than white in tips of P9/P10, tough to make out anything else. Flew off ~7:30 with other gulls. Set up on Marine Avenue. Others present included: Becky Lutz, Alex Pyles, David French, Jim Malone, Billy McCaslin, David Dean, Diane Bricmont, Christopher Tomera, Dave Haenni. Terrible photos, but pretty much show what to look for and how it stands out in middle of lake. Can a “Kamchatka” Common Gull be ruled out?
