My 300th bird for Alameda! Awesome find by Kevin Dixon, and reported by Doug Henderson. Absolute unit of a loon. Blocky head with pronounced forehead bump. Ivory-yellow bill, slightly upturned, especially on the bottom edge. Scalloped back pattern with pale edges to feathers. Seen from the shoreline here (37.7673, -122.2796), often extremely close to the riprap, where it was feeding on crabs. Last seen heading further out into the bay, but still visible at sunset.
