Though not filter-flagged for the Fort Smith region, it carries much greater significance in the Yellowknife area. My second sighting, and my first winter record. Also the first I have zero doubts about. Approaching the curve of the road towards Rat Lake just NE of this marker, a small bird flitted across the road into a willow bush on the road’s shoulder. Pulled up alongside to see a tiny woodpecker clambering around in the small willow branches, which is a decidedly Downy behaviour. Small stub of a bill noted. Some phone photos and video captured with the help of my wife.
