Northern Saw-whet Owl (Calling bird + 'comb' call of second bird, this audio striped from a .mov file)
观察细节
All NSWO's found between Township Road/2650N and Fire Lane/2900N. Of the 34 stops, no NSWO's found at first 2 stops nor the last 8. However, in the middle 24 stops, I had NSWO's at 12 (with 2 birds at 2 separate stops, calling from low in bushes at same time on opposite sides of the road). Toots and other call audio heard (audio added was stripped out from a movie file and converted to an mp3 file to add herein). There were at least 14 unique birds (and stops were at least .3 mile apart, so no duplicates. I heard 17 different birds as a couple spots later in night came close to a former spot that had a NSWO, so to be conservative, I didn't count the extra 3. However, it's possible there were 17 and this tally doesn't even include the extensive 1+ square miles Pine forest along 2950N (which I didn't have time to cover). Another birder survey on Nov 29th here turned up 3 birds, so tonight's tally were likely many latter fall migrants taking advantage of some (temporary?) food source. See comments for survey protocol and weather details. This survey was the the 2nd highest site field survey tally in IL history (not including mist nesting/banding site work).
