LIFAH!!! North American MEGA!!! 1st FL record!!! 6th North American record!! Found around 1:30 this afternoon by Oscar Johnson!! Thanks to his immense knowledge and skills, as well as his experience in the field with this bird, was able to make an INSTANT ID, and was able to get the word out quick!! I was notified by a couple of my birding connections and Jeff Fisher and I hauled ass out of Port Charlotte for the 50 minute ride, and arrived at the park just before 4, and found the group of birders looking for the bird. We had only been there a couple minutes when it was spotted, and I saw it fly out of the Cherry bush, and up into the Bamboo and Gumbo. Got a few flitting looks in the gumbo and saw it fly out. This was the pattern it pretty much followed over the 4 hours we were there, I saw the Elaenia, all briefly, 6 times. The second time it came through, we actually heard it call a couple times. Pip call resembling Alder Fly is what it sounded like to me. This was also my best time seeing it in bins and was lucky enough to get a crappy documentary pic!! All my definitive views were in the first couple hours of being at the park. What a kick ass bird!! Thanks again Oscar J. for the INCREDIBLE find!!!!!!
