In cattails all the way around the lake, although this fringe of cattails was often fairly narrow. Birds seemed quite tame: used to people at the lake? One female photographed with an insect, but I didn't notice this at the time (through the camera), and don't know whether she was carrying it for offspring or ate it herself.
